Definition: 1.Any recently formed sea ice that is sufficiently thick to impede navigation. 2.In Labrador, one-year ice that forms in bays and inlets. 3.In the Antarctic, sometimes applied to heavy floes recently broken away from an ice shelf.  AMSglossary
