Definition: (from Russian, plural form of 'zastruga'; variant spelling sastrugi) Ridges of hard snow alternating with wind-blown furrows running parallel with the direction of the wind. This surface formation results from the erosion of transverse waves previously formed. Zastrugi may be up to several meters long and up to several tens of centimetres high.  IACSSnow
