Definition: The rate of flow of ice or water through a vertical section perpendicular to the direction of the flow. Care is needed because discharge can refer to either ice discharge or meltwater discharge, as well as being used in hydrology to refer to water flow from basins in which there are no glaciers.  IHPGlacierMassBalance
