Term: Shuga ice
Definition: An accumulation of spongy white lumps, a few centimetres across; they are formed from grease ice or slush and sometimes from anchor ice rising to the surface. With the interaction of surface winds and waves, shuga may line up along the wind direction and form characteristic ice bands.
