Definition: A boundary sometimes identified in perennially Frozen Ground, representing the base of a Relict Active Layer, as well as the corresponding earlier Permafrost Table. A Thaw Unconformity may be recognized by differences in Ice Contents, stable isotope contents, and heavy mineral and pollen assemblages above and below the unconformity.
