Tidal tails A long stream of stars and gas, often in the form of a spectacular tail, thrown off a galaxy when it collides with another galaxy. Two tidal tails form in each galaxy, and they are more spectacular wh en the masses of the two galaxies are comparable, and when their relative orbit is in the same sense as the rotation inside each spiral galaxy. Tide crack Crack at the line of junction between an immovable ice foot or ice wall and fast ice, the latter subject to rise and fall of the tide. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Tide crack A crack between fast ice subject to sea level tidal rise and fall and the fast ice foot or ice wall, or shore. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Tide crack A crack between the moving sea ice and the unmoving ice foot. It may widen to form a shore lead. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Tide crack The fissure at the line of junction between an immovable icefoot or ice wall and fast ice, the latter being subject to the rise and fall of the tide. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27

Tidewater glacier A glacier with a terminus that ends in a body of water influenced by tides, such as the ocean or a large lake. Typically, tidewater glaciers calve ice to produce icebergs. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Tidewater glacier A glacier that terminates in the sea, with terminus either floating or grounded below sea level. The adjective indicates geographical setting, and not that tides play a role in the mass balance. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
Tidewater glacier Mountain glacier that terminates in the ocean. GCW Glossary 2023.03.27
